Exploring emergent forms of movement and sound:

Uncategorized

This Earth Day – Sunday April 22nd 2012, we will be joining Rahasya at Whole: Mind. Body. Art. (127 N. Jackson St.Athens GA) with a set of world influenced dance music. The event will go from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM. More info to come…

Reinventing the Wave

Since our first event we have been learning from, exploring and re-interpreting many approaches to facilitating ecstatic dance. This has involved creating structured and intentional spaces where participants can explore and interact with the musical progression of the event. The structures of our events have functioned like a diving board, allowing us climb through musical styles and tempi before leaping into the unknown. This leap is where all plans and preconceived notions about movement and sound can be most easily released and where we can connect with the collective dance experience in new and powerful ways. It is here that the ‘wave’ of music breaks and reinvents it’s self in new forms of sonic collage, ecstatic movement and collective peak experiences.

From a musical perspective these tend to be some of the most improvised sections of an event. It can feel like a train lifting off it’s tracks as the focus shifts further from planned progressions, toward musical interaction with the dance floor. While these sections often hold the most excitement, for many the most powerful moments come during the journey’s descent from it’s peak. As the music and dancing wind down, the structures of the sounds and movements slowly vaporizes altogether. It is in these moments that line between the sounds from our speakers and our surroundings blur and eventually disappear.

As we have our next event coming on the horizon at Whole: Mind Body Art, we are spending time in the studio preparing our next set, which will be the first to include tracks from our upcoming album along with a generous helping of dub and world grooves. We hope that introducing new, original and interactive material will lead to a more unique and immersive dance experience for everyone.

Bringing our first Athens dance floor to life with Whole: Mind. Body. Art.

We are teaming up with Whole: Mind. Body. Art. to bring our first Athens dance floor to life. We will be DJing to two separate rooms: one for the main dance floor and one with lower volume levels and refreshments to chill out in. The music starts Friday September 16th at 10:30 PM at 127 N. Jackson St. Athens, GA, at Whole: Mind. Body. Art. right next to Pita Pit. We will be mixing a wide ranging set of ambient, downtempo, world, indie electronic, house and dub, with some twists along the way.
