Our Dance events are an ongoing exploration in sound and movement. We encourage participants to discover there own unique approach to experiencing the music and moving their bodies. We provide a safe and creative environment to explore movement and consciousness, while giving dancers the space to invent their own experiment in dance. There is no right way to dance at Sentient Rhythms. Nothing is too absurd or too simple. We encourage participants to uncover the depth’s of what ever it is that moves them to dance; and to take that direction as far as they can. Because Sentient Rhythms is a collective experiment, the experience of each dance is unique and determined by every person who attends.
We are passionate about music! The music of Sentient Rhythms is always facilitated live, whether from a DJ or musicians. While our style tends to be heavily influenced by modern world music, we regularly explore unexpected musical realms in a live mix that is responsive to the subtle energies of the group.
Our free form dance events will soon be taking place in Athens Georgia. Our events are kid friendly, and we welcome all levels of dancers to come join us. The suggested donation for our events is $5.

Guidelines for our events:
Sentient Rhythms encourages a non-verbal space on the dance floor while the dance is in session. This is meant to focus our events on the experience of music. It can be difficult to describe how powerful this practice has been in allowing all participants to collectively engage in the musical journey as it unfolds.
We encourage dancers to dance with each others by mutual agreement through eye contact and a smile and to respect those who wish to dance alone.
The structure of our events:
Warm up is a time to stretch, meditate, and dance.
During Opening Circle participants can introduce themselves and express what they plan to focus on during the dance. We also cover some basic guidelines, helpful information about sharing the space, and occasionally other surprises.

Closing Circle begins with a time to share any experiences you may have had on the dance floor.
